Task 1

INSTRUCTIONS

TASK
Reference board
This assignment began with Mr. Hafiz advocating that we use ChatGPT to generate characters to complete our task1 and also providing us with generation instructions.

So I followed the instructions and generated the following four personas to complete my task1.

Then I started looking for references on pinterest to conceptualize how my sketches should be outlined and colored.

I finally decided to use thick lines and simple colors for coloring, so I found similar images to use as my visual reference.

Development Process

After looking for a reference, I imported the ChatGPT-generated character into my Adobe Inllustrator for digitizing.
I started with a stroke, primarily using the pen tool, and then used the curvature tool (shift+`) to adjust the curved unnatural lines.

After completing the tracing I began to try to color in reference to what was on the visual reference board. Along the way I noticed that some of the colors sometimes need to be “aligned” in order to make the character colors look normal.
Sometimes, when using a pen to trace a line, the shape is not closed, which makes it impossible to fill in the color.

After the general colors were decided upon, I think the image now looks a bit monotonous. So I decided to use the clipping tool to shade the four characters to make their colors look richer and more three-dimensional.

After the shading, the four characters now look much more three-dimensionally perfect.

After completing the drawing of the remaining three characters, I'm going to try my hand at texturing on the demonic kitten, I'm using Effect-Texture-Granularization for the shaded parts of the kitten, and then using the Gradient tool for these shaded patches of color, after adjusting the opacity to give the shadows a more textured look.
